What is a robotic kit good for an adult to create with?
A beginner. Does anyone have any experience with Mindstorms, Vex, etc.?
The Lego kits can be quite advanced. The new (NXT) kit running a version of LabVIEW from National Instruments. This software is widely used in industrial instrumentation and automation. However, the interface that is provided with the kit is suitable for older children and beginners. If you have little experience with electronics and programming, I would start with a Mindstorms NXT kit. If you want more flexibility, and can handle basic programming and electronics, see www.basicx.com. They sell a good book to get you started, and you can buy everything the hardware you need to do the robot in the book. I used a BasicX processor to turn a car R / C in a GPS guided, avoiding barriers robot.
